Sponsoring Kenyan Runners
I was embarrassed to admit that all this (I deleted pages and pages of stuff and photos) was for nothing. Nobody else donated, and some guy told me it was a scam.
Later - I discovered it was NOT a scam, the second guy who told me it was a scam, was the scammer, and in fact Edwin is a genuine runner with a real team. However I feel burned by the whole thing and don't want to put the pages up again.
I discovered that my contact, Edwin, was genuine, when some investigators for a charity I am involved with, went over there and checked him out. I'm sponsoring some students over in Kenya (don't ask me why, I never thought I gave a curse about Kenya but there you go, I decided to do something and so forth, and so I have a fresh hole in my pocket). The charity could not justify the funds for all the students Edwin wanted to help, so I have been pitching in from time to time with funds for a couple of students, a couple of racers running the odd prize-money race, and so forth.
So, tell me I'm an old fool, who should be saving his money for retirement, but what the heck. If you want to sponsor some deserving kids (hard working students, very hard working runners who want to win prize money to help their friends and family -- a couple of my sponsored runners have won big, and shared it out over there) let me know and I can put you in touch with someone.
